My toddler watches Dora the Explorer every day on direct tv local channels. Normally I don’t like him watching a ton of TV, but watching Dora has given him a bigger vocabulary. I sit down with him every day to watch his show and guide him in the program. He is able to say all of the names of the characters on the cartoon and sing all of the songs.
This program has helped me teach him numbers and directions as well as matching items. When it is time for him to find something in the backpack he will touch the TV screen and sing the song with Dora. This is impressive for a child his age that seems to be a little lazy about expanding his vocabulary.
At first, I found the show a little interesting but realized that he would whisper back to the show each time he asked a question. I am trying to get him to talk louder by letting him know that I want to hear his words. I realized that he wasn’t just humming along to the map song or the backpack song, he was actually singing very softly.
Now when we get in the car my son will sing the map song and when we eat he will sing the backpack song. He loves learning Spanish words as well, which are actually easier for him to pronounce.
