My sister and niece came to pick up my nephew this weekend. As usual my sister and I had plenty of laughs. The kids all enjoyed playing with each other, too. However, Saturday was soooo hot and humid that by Sunday we were ready to go somewhere besides this hot house. We decided to go to the river and look at how high it was. Neither my niece or nephew have ever been this close to the river in all the times they have come to visit. They both thought it was exciting. Well, Andy thought it more exciting than Emma. We had a good time looking at driftwood and rocks.
Tom even joined us on our excursion.
Somehow it came up that we should either walk across the bridge to Keokuk or go up to David’s Chamber. We decided on David’s Chamber since the kids would be able to play in the water there. Oh, my did we have fun!
Melina enjoying the cool water.
Sue talking to Andy about the different layers of rocks.
The older girl cousins. There is just 3 years from oldest to youngest with Emma being in the middle.
Heading up the creek to see what we can see.
Tom found a place to sit where he could keep his leg dry. He really wanted to be able to get in the creek with the rest of us. This is one of the few times I ever wish he had 2 legs.
When did my boy child grow such long, manly arms?
My sister has always been the ham of the family. We laughed until we cried over this picture.
Clint teaching Andy how to skip rocks.
Andy’s smile can light up a room.
He must have just skipped a rock a very long ways and is celebrating. At any rate, this is one of my favorite pictures from the day.
Since the rocks are moss covered, we step carefully so we don’t fall.
Tom found a place where he could dip his foot and keep his prosthesis dry.
We left as the rain started to fall and the thunder started to rumble. Everyone declared the trip a good time! We have all said we will go back at a later date.
