Fall sort of dilly-dallied this year. The weather and the leaves both took their time changing. And then WHAM! it was suddenly winter-like. I actually feel like we missed fall altogether this year. There was no gradual lowering of temperatures or fantastic explosion of fall colors. There were very few days of sweatshirt weather where you could smell the damp leaves warming in the fall sun. It was hot and then it became cold. So here we are in what feels like December weather already. For the last few weeks, I have dreaded going out to do chores. Now, while this weather is one of the best fat burners nature has to offer, I would prefer to not have to break the ice on all of the waterers every morning and night. I would prefer to not have the wind blowing up the back of my coat as I am rushing around to get things done. I would prefer a lot of things but the fact is that despite scenes like this one from the other evening, winter is knocking on my door.
No, I think that winter is actually got his shoulder into the door and one foot wedged in. So be prepared…I just might have to do some whining about the cold.
