I have some readers in my house. All of my girls love to read and we sometimes run out of reading materials for them. I was thrilled when I was given a copy of Catty Wompus A Tale of Friendship by Julie Howe to review and so was Melina! Catty Wompus is the story of a girl who appears to be moody and aloof. One day Lucy Hope is on the receiving end of Catty’s meanness. Lucy goes home and talks to her mother about Catty and her attitude. Lucy’s mother lovingly points out that Catty is most likely lonely and would just like a friend. I won’t tell you the ending. I’ll merely say that love really does conquer all!
Catty Wompus is written in rhyme and is quite easily read by a first grader. The illustrations are very colorful and fun. Melina, who is 7, was delighted with the book. I was, too. It tells a great life lesson in a way that makes sense to a child. This is definitely a book that could easily become a family classic.
