Despite the impending late winter storm, I have spring thoughts on my mind. Just a few days ago I saw my first robins of the year. This means that our summer birds are making their way northward and warm winds and sunshine are on the way! For a lot of people, that means securing reservations for Outer Banks rentals or some other vacation spot for a summer trip. However, around here it means turning our thoughts to our garden. We are pouring over all of the seed catalogs that have been showing up in our mailbox since December. We will be making a list of what we will be planting this year. Maybe we will cut some things out and add some other things in. We are pretty set on what varieties of tomatoes, tomatoes and squash we will plant. Everything else is up in the air. Sometimes we feel like a change and sometimes we are happy with what we planted last year. I do know that we are committed to making the berries all work this year. And that is a committment! It takes a lot of weeding to keep those berry plants happy. I also know that we will be buying some apple trees this year. Most likely 3 heirloom varieties. Oh, and a cherry tree. We need a cherry tree! It won’t be long and we will be up to our elbows in garden soil and plants. Yay!
