Winter Continues…Darnit!

Yes, it is still winter. When I read that the Farmer’s Almanac was calling for February’s weather to be more like December’s weather I didn’t think much of it. December isn’t that bad, right? It isn’t but I forgot to factor something into my thinking. In December, the cold and snow is all still new. We are still okay with having to shovel the sidewalk and wear our heavy coats and boots. Fast forward to February and we are sick to death of the cold and snow and shoveling and heavy coats and boots. I have decided that having December’s weather in February is NOT such a nice thing. We were blessed on Sunday with about 8 inches of snow. It snowed most of the day and into the evening.

Then the wind began to how and by Monday morning, most folks were drifted in. Schools were cancelled again and we found out that we were in the heaviest snow band. The girls spent some time taking care of the animals and playing in the snow.

Jasmine was not too happy about being outside. She hates the cold and snow.

Most folks are also a little grouchy about the new snow and the single digit temperatures that came with it. Even the kids. We are all ready for spring! Of course, spring brings its own problems. The National Weather Service released its flood predictions this week. There is a high probability of spring flooding along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. The large amounts of snow that have been received far north of us as well as the high rainfall from last spring that is now frozen in the soil means that we will have to be getting our super pump 250s ready. The sad part is that some levees haven’t been fixed from the flood of 2008 yet. That just isn’t such a good thing. So really, we are all just ready for summer. How does June sound?
